Description

The Church of St Jude is a church built in 1836, designed by George Latham of Nantwich. It is constructed from yellow sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. The nave and chancel are under a single, undivided roof, with a gallery at the western end.

The west facade includes a projecting plinth that extends across the entire building. Square turrets at the corners transition to octagonal shapes with blind arcading at the tops and spires above. The central double doorway has a chamfered reveal and a hood-mould that ends in floral label stops. Above the door is a string course, where the turrets change to their octagonal forms. There is a triple lancet window above the door, also with a hood mould and floral label stops. A central circular light is set into the gable, topped with a gabled bell-cote that features crockets and a cross at the summit.

Each side of the church has five pairs of lancet windows with hood-moulds and label stops, separated by buttresses that have chamfered corners and gabled caps. The eastern end includes a lean-to vestry at the lower wall and a triple-lancet window above, adorned with cusped crockets on the gable and flanked by buttresses. The church was commissioned by Admiral Tollemache and is oriented north-south to align with the end of his drive from Tilstone House.
