Description
The Old Post Office is a cottage, likely built in the mid 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features an oak small-panel frame, which has been partly replaced with painted brick and partly rests on a sandstone plinth. The cottage has a thatched roof and consists of one storey plus attic bedrooms, arranged in three cells. The lower storey has two small-pane 19th century cast iron casements, and there are two more in the upper storey. The original door has been replaced. The rear wall and the right gable wall are constructed of brick, and there is a small 20th century brick extension at the rear. The thatched roof, which previously had a gabled dormer over the right bedroom, now features an eyebrow dormer. There are two ridge chimneys and a chimney on the right gable, all made of brick. Inside, the right parlour contains a large chamfered oak beam and an altered ingle-nook against the gable wall, with a staircase in the corner. There are three doors made of wide oak boards.
