Description
Cross Cottage is a cottage that has the character of a lodge or toll cottage, built in the early 19th century and extended to the east, likely in the 1930s. The original part is made of local brown brick and features a hipped grey slate roof, which was originally pyramidal in shape. The cottage is two storeys high and has a central chimney with one flue.
On the north side facing Pump Lane, the west side facing Farndon Road, and the south side, there is a central round-arched recess. This recess contains a 12-pane wood casement window on the lower storey and an 8-pane wood casement window on the upper storey. The cottage has a plain, slightly projecting plinth and a first-floor band, both made of sandstone. Exposed joists are visible at the eaves. Additionally, a small casement window has been inserted near the northeast and southwest corners of the original 19th-century section. The extension features a boarded door.
