Description
Belgrave Lodge Gates, Piers and Wing Walls were constructed in 1889 by John Douglas for the 1st Duke of Westminster. This structure features a pair of gates made from wrought and cast iron, along with stone piers and wing walls. Each gate displays the Westminster initial and ducal coronet, surrounded by heraldic roses within a panel of plain vertical rails. The gates are adorned with spiked dogbars at the base, scrollwork with leaf terminals on the sides, and a floral and leaf pattern at the top.
The square stone piers have recessed corners, projecting moulded plinths, and classical moulded projecting capitals, each topped with talbot dogs rampant that hold shields. The north shield features a cross, while the south shield displays a Grosvenor sheaf. The wing walls, made of yellow sandstone and featuring consoles to the piers, enclose a deep rectangular grassed forecourt. The rear walls, aligned with the gates, have shaped copings and piers with stone ball finials. The plain stone side walls of the forecourt have flush copings and open towards Wrexham Road, with convex quadrant wings.
