Description
Thornton Hall is an 18th-century classical hall made of brown brick, standing two stories tall with attics. The building was largely rebuilt around 1840 after a major fire. It features two-pane double-hung sash windows, and the main door on the south side has been replaced. There are no internal features that predate the rebuilding, though some six-panel doors have fields formed by planted moulds. The drawing room from 1840 has a moulded plaster ceiling with geometric sunken panels, which are somewhat coarse in appearance. A significant internal refurbishment in the early 20th century includes a good open well staircase with a simple, well-proportioned arched balustrade, a timber arcaded stair hall, and some replacement doors.
