Description
Nos 1 to 4 Lower Mersey Street is an early 19th-century terrace of four, three-storey brown brick houses with basements. The houses feature a gabled grey slate roof, with chimneys located at the gables and between the third and fifth houses. The buildings have painted wedge lintels and recessed sash windows, with 12 panes on the ground and first floors, and 9 panes on the second floor. The entrances are arranged in two pairs, each with porticos that have flat, white-painted concrete canopies supported by square brick pilasters with simple capitals. These houses were built for senior staff of the Ellesmere or Chester and Ellesmere Canal Company.
