Description
16 and 18 Black Friars are two cottages built around 1840. They feature brown brick in Flemish bond on the front and have a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the street. The cottages are two storeys high, with each cottage having one bay. They have a painted plinth and round-arched doorcases made of painted stone or imitation stone, which include radial-bar fanlights. The door of 16 has six fielded panels, while the door of 18 has four bolection-moulded fielded panels. Both cottages have painted stone sills and wedge lintels. Cottage 16 has replaced 12-pane windows, and cottage 18 has 12-pane recessed sashes. A painted stone cornice runs along the top, and there is a brick ridge chimney on each cottage. The rear and interiors were not inspected. Cottages 20 and 22, which are not included in this listing, have been altered and are not of special interest.
