Description
Tinkwood is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, featuring an additional wing and various alterations. It is constructed of brown brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building is square, with two storeys, attics, and cellars. The symmetrical garden front has five windows, which are replaced sashes with glazing bars; some of these have recently been unblocked. The windows feature gauged brick heads and header cills. A central stone doorcase has a heavy moulded architrave and supports a flat projecting canopy. The house also has a moulded stone plinth, a band, and rusticated quoins, along with a replaced central brick stack. The cellar window includes a stone mullion.
Inside, there is an oak close string staircase with a moulded rail, twisted balusters, and square newels. In the attic, the staircase has altered turned balusters that were brought from the Broxton estate. The interior features stop-chamfered beams, including an inglenook bressumer, and panelling that has also been sourced from outside.
