Description

Poplar House is a detached house built in the late 18th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a grey slate roof. The building is two storeys high, double-fronted, and symmetrical in design. It has a painted stone plinth and a slightly projecting entrance bay, which is accessed by four stone steps leading to a door with two flush panels and four fielded panels, set in a recessed panelled case topped with an ornate radial-bar fanlight. The windows have painted stone sills and wedge lintels, with 12-pane recessed sashes on either side of the entrance and three on the first floor. A moulded cornice and a pedimented gable accentuate the entrance bay. The roof is hipped to the left and gabled to the right.

On the left side, there is a large added square one-storey brick bay window and a cross-casement window with margin panes. The first floor has two nearly flush 12-pane sashes with concealed sash-boxes. The right side of the house is blank, with rendered brickwork. The rear features two gables, one of which is stone-coped and may be older than the front. The interior has not been inspected.
