Description
The Old Swinging Gate Inn is a former inn, now a house, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with an exterior that reflects early 18th-century style and mid-19th-century window features. The building is constructed of washed brick set on a solid rock base, topped with a Welsh slate roof and featuring three brick chimneys. It has an L-shaped plan and is two stories high with a four-bay front. The first floor displays a brick bond, while the windows are four-pane sashes set under cambered brick heads. The second bay includes a simple wooden doorcase with a partly glazed door, which is reached by seven steps with concrete treads. Although the interior was not inspected, timber framing is visible in the hall, and there is a reported rock-cut cellar.
