Description
The Church of St Mark is a church built between 1857 and 1859 by architect G G Scott. It is constructed from tooled red sandstone and features a steep graded slate roof in a decorated style that is simply detailed. The church has no aisles and consists of a continuous nave and chancel. It includes a slate splay-footed spired belfry on the ridge, topped with a weathercock, a south porch, and a priest's door located in a buttress-shaped porch. There is a north vestry as well. The west side has a 2-light window, while each side of the nave has two 2-light windows and one lancet window. The east window is a reticulated 3-light design. Inside, the nave roof is supported by two crownpost trusses, and there is a timber chancel arch along with a panelled chancel roof. The church features a screen made of wood and cast iron designed by Scott, as well as stained glass in the chancel windows and the south windows of the nave.
