Description

The English Presbyterian Church of Wales is a Presbyterian church built in 1864 by Michael Gummow of Wrexham. The church features a stucco front, brick sides and rear, and a grey slate roof.

The exterior showcases an Ionic front with a full-height four-column portico in antis. There is a plain cast-iron railing surrounding the forecourt, set on a stone plinth, with three pairs of iron gates that have lattice dogbars, a double lockrail, and a foliar top-rail with spears. The gates are supported by square panelled cast-iron posts, and there is a simple gate leading to a sunk yard on the right. Behind the portico, the wall includes a sillband with a central recessed panel and now blank architraved openings on each side, which are flanked by pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. Each return wall of the portico has a pair of doors with five fielded panels. The wings feature blank panels with architrave friezes and cornices.

The gallery contains three probably cast-iron lights, two of which have one-pane hoppers, located in the portico, along with a 12-pane fixed light on the face of each wing. The openings are adorned with architraves, friezes, and alternating triangular and curved pediments. The portico is topped with a dentil pediment.

The sides of the church have six bays, with the first bay finished in stucco and the remaining bays in brick. The basement features 16-pane recessed sashes, one of which has been altered. There is a simple plinth-cap at the basement ceiling level, brick pilasters, stone imposts and keys, and 18-pane lights with four-pane stilted fans. The liturgical east end of the church is apsidal. The interior has not been inspected.
