Description
Chapel House of the English Presbyterian Church of Wales is a former Sunday school, now serving as an architect's office, built in 1880. The building is constructed of rock-faced coursed yellow sandstone and features a grey slate roof, showcasing a classical style. It stands two storeys high with one bay. The structure has a plinth with a weathered cap, and the untapered ashlar corner pilasters include plinths and simple friezes.
The basement contains three low one-pane windows with moulded arrises to the lintels. On the ground floor, there is a tripartite window consisting of nine panes arranged as three sets of three, supported by pilaster mullions, with a moulded sill on corbels, flush quoins, and a cornice on consoles. The first floor features a similar tripartite window with the same pane arrangement, including a moulded sill on corbels, intermediate and end pilasters, and round arches with architraves and shaped keystones. The building is topped with an open pediment gable.
On the south side, the stone front bay has a door made of six fielded panels set in a recessed opening, topped with a cornice hood on corbels, and a slit window positioned above lintel height to the left. A stone plaque by the door reads, "THIS MEMORIAL STONE WAS LAID BY MISS WALKER ABBEY GREEN CHESTER JUNE 16 1880 THE SUNDAY SCHOOL CENTENARY YEAR." The first floor also has a two-pane window with a simple sill, flush ashlar quoins, and a moulded cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
