Description

Higher Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1845, located on the site of an earlier farmhouse. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with overhanging boxed eaves and a tiled ridge. There are brick double stacks at the ridge ends and a stone plinth. The building is two stories tall and has a three-window rectangular block with an added wing at the rear. The windows are recessed sashes with glazing bars, stone heads, and cills. On the sides, there are sashes and metal casements, including a ground floor bay window with metal casements.

The central entrance has a timber porch with a flat modillioned canopy supported by octagonal columns on a stone plinth, with simple pilasters behind. The doorcase features recessed moulding and a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars above a replaced four-panel door. On the right side, there is an original four-panel door in a doorcase with recessed panels, accompanied by a three-pane rectangular fanlight and a short flat canopy. A similar fanlight is located above the back door. Inside, the farmhouse has an open string staircase with square balusters and a moulded mahogany rail, complete with a curtail and a turned newel post, as well as four-panel doors throughout.
