Description
The curtain wall to the south of the Inner Bailey at Chester Castle is dated 1786, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed from Bunter sandstone ashlar and features a central wall that faces south, with lateral walls oriented towards the south-south-west and south-south-east. The south front has battered walls with raised rusticated quoins at the corners and a large roll moulding below a battlemented parapet, which is topped with a moulded offset coping. The datestone is located at the center of the south-south-western wall. At the rear, there is a raised walkway with a stone-flagged and tarmacadam surface set on brick walling. The western and south-western sections of the curtain wall connect to the left, while the eastern wall is to the right.
