Description

Bickley Hall Farmhouse, along with its attached wing of farm buildings, dates from the 17th century and underwent alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, with the north gable rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The structure features some oak small framing but is mostly rebuilt in brick, topped with grey slate roofs. The farmhouse has a long, narrow west wing that is two storeys high with a steep-pitched roof, and an L-shaped east wing that is early 19th century and positioned back-to-back against the south part of the west wing.

At the south-west corner of the west wing is the north-east corner of the farm buildings, which dates from the 17th century and has flush sandstone quoins and a three-light recessed mullioned window that now serves as a hayloft but was previously used as groom's quarters. The north gable of the west wing features an oak tie-beam with a painted inscription in 19th-century Gothic lettering that reads, "In this house died Robert Cholmondeley, Earl of Leinster, October 2 1650." The west side of the farmhouse includes some oak small framing, and the windows in the west wing consist of two small-pane iron casements under camber arches and one small-pane wood casement. The east wing boasts a two-storey hipped canted bay window on its east gable, which has 16-pane sash windows, along with other recessed 16-pane sashes.

Inside, the west wing contains two ovolo oak beams in the lower storey and oak purlins in the attic, while the east wing features doors with six fielded panels.
