Description
The table tomb, located approximately 15 yards east of the Church of St Wilfred, dates from around 1808. It commemorates William Worthington of Leftwich, a merchant who died in 1808, along with other family members. The tomb features a base made of yellow sandstone ashlar, with marble sides and a sandstone top. It is rectangular in shape with encased sides. The sides are adorned with lateral pilaster strips topped with acroteria and a relief of trailing foliage. The central panels display oval paterae surrounded by rinceau. The panel at the head of the tomb features an urn with a cover and a flame finial, encircled by oak leaves tied with a ribbon at the base. The panel at the foot showcases a round patera surrounded by laurel boughs, all in relief.
