Description
The lych gate in the churchyard of St Helen is an early 20th-century structure. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth, topped with a stone slate roof. The gate has a rectangular shape with stone plinths on the sides. Each side is supported by four timber posts, with the central posts positioned closer together and filled with cusped wooden tracery, featuring a trefoil at each apex. The design includes arched braces connecting to the tie beams, with additional arched braces above that link to the principal supports. Both gables are enhanced with king posts and V-strutting. The western tie beam bears the inscription, "If Thou Wilt Enter Into Life Keep The Commandments," while the eastern tie beam is inscribed with, "Let Thy Loving Spirit Lead Them Forth Into The Land Of Righteousness." This lych gate is noted for its group value within the churchyard.
