Description

The table tomb of Mary and Robert Okell, along with others, is located in St Peter's churchyard, 9 metres south of the west bay of the nave. This tomb dates from 1770 and is made of stone. It features fluted antae at the corners and has a recessed panel at each end. Each side has two recessed panels divided by a pilaster. The slab is inscribed with the following text: "Here lieth the Body of Mary wife of Robert Okell of Sutton who departed this Life August Ye 11th 1770 in the 63rd Year of her Age. Also the Body of the above Robert Okell who departed this Life May 26th 1780 Aged .... Years. Also John Okell .... 1831. Also Margaret daughter of the above John Okell 1858 (and further inscriptions, damaged)."
