Description
Nos. 16-19 on The Parade are three houses that have been converted into two shops and two flats. They date from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features whitened roughcast over brick, with painted quoins and a slate roof that has coped gables. There is a large external stack on the left and a prominent central ridge stack.
The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a six-window front, including a two-bay wing that is set back on the left. The ground floor is occupied by three shop fronts, each featuring a moulded cornice, with the shop front for No. 17 returning at the right end. On the first and attic floors, the central windows are made of uPVC, while the two windows on each side are 6/6 sashes. The attic windows are located in gabled half-dormers. All window openings are quoined and have painted stone sills and lintels, with a raised attic band.
The left return of the building features a six-panel door with bead and flush lower panels and raised and fielded panels above, located in the set back wing to the northeast. The right return has a fully glazed door and sash windows on the upper floors. Inside, there are exposed floor beams and a staircase with turned balusters.
