Description

South Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations and an extension in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is of whitened roughcast brick on a painted stone plinth, with painted stone quoins and bands, and a slate roof with coped gables and two rendered gable stacks. The front of the house is three stories and one bay wide. To the right is a two-story square bay with a hipped roof and a first-floor set back. A four-panel front door, with bead and flush lower panels and moulded upper panels and a bracketed porch, is located to the left of the bay. The windows on both floors of this bay are three-light casements. A two-light uPVC casement is on the second floor. The right return has a three-story, two-window gable end; two sash windows remain, with other windows being 20th-century casements. All windows are set within quoined openings with painted stone sills and lintels. A raised first-floor band is on the front, and extended across the right gable end; the right return also has a second-floor band. The interior features exposed floor beams and a staircase with turned balusters.
