Description
Mouldsworth Hall is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations and additions from the early 18th and early 19th centuries, and a major renovation in the 20th century. It is built of washed brick on an ashlar plinth and features a graduated Welsh slate roof with a stone ridge. The building has one lateral ashlar chimney with a moulded cornice and three brick chimneys. The plan is L-shaped, with a two-storey, four-bay front. The windows have cambered brick heads and are fitted with casements that include glazing bars. The left end bay projects slightly, and the central two bays have a brick bond at the first floor. There is a door in the second bay, which is sheltered by a lean-to porch.
Inside, the house reveals some timber small framing with wattle and daub infill, characteristic of an L-shaped house. It features heavy chamfered ceiling beams and an exposed truss with vertical strutting above the tiebeam. On the upper floor, there is a notable rebated and cyma-moulded stone fireplace with a four-centred arched head and a moulded stone shelf above.
