Description

24 and 26 Queen Street are a pair of town houses, now functioning as a nursing home, built around 1770. They are constructed from Flemish bond brown brick and topped with a grey slate roof. The buildings have cellars and three storeys. Each house features a painted stone plinth with a cellar vent, and there are two doorways, each accessed by two stone steps. The left doorway has five fielded panels, while the right has six. Both doors have overlights and paired architraves, with the outer sides eared and panelled jambs and soffit on the right door. A continuous frieze and cornice run above the doorways.

The left house has a 16-pane flush sash window, and the right house has a 4;12;4-pane sash. On the first floor, each house has two flush 12-pane sashes, with the right house featuring a sill band. There is a continuous vertical joint between the two houses on both upper storeys. The left house has an unequal 12-pane flush sash on the second floor, while the right house has two flush 9-pane sashes. Both houses have painted stone sills and rusticated wedge lintels with keystones. Each house has flush chimneys, one located before the ridge and one behind.

The left (north) gable is rendered and features a 20-pane unequal sash window near the rear of each storey. The rear includes a sash window with four rows of five panes on the ground floor and a 16-pane sash on each upper storey, with square panes on the second floor. The right side has a replaced 6-pane sash on the first floor and a 9-pane sash on the second floor. The rear of the building is built against. The interior has not been inspected.
