Description
The hearse house, located in the graveyard of St Chad's Chapel, was built in 1822. It is constructed of brown brickwork in English garden wall bond and features a pyramidal roof covered with grey slate. The west front has double boarded doors, while the south side has a boarded pedestrian door set under a red sandstone lintel with a cambered soffit. This door is inscribed with the names Robert Roe and Charles Green, who were Church Wardens in 1834. The hearse house contains a horse-drawn hearse and is maintained by the County Council Museums Service.
