Description

Alvanley Hall Farmhouse is a 17th-century hall that has been altered over time. It features a large early medieval column in its undercroft. The building is constructed from roughly coursed red sandstone rubble with later brickwork and has a low-pitched grey slate roof. It is two storeys plus an attic and has an L-shaped layout, consisting of two bays with a cross gable on the west side and three bays on the east side, with a south extension made of brick.

On the west side, there is a replaced boarded oak door, accompanied by a hollow-moulded three-light window to the left. Above the door, there is a two-light window, and to the upper storey, there is a three-light window. The gable of the cross-wing features a hollow-moulded four-light window on each main storey and a lower four-light window in the attic. The north end-gable has a two-light window in the lower storey and in the attic.

The east side has a replaced framed and boarded door in a plain opening to the left, a four-light casement window with flush slightly hollow mullions on each main storey, a two-light window in the undercroft below, and a two-light attic window above. Additionally, there is a three-light stair window with a two-light undercroft window below, and a two-light window on each main storey to the right.

Inside, the standout feature is a massive round column in the undercroft, which rests on a hollow-sided octagonal base. This significant architectural element contributes to the building's Grade II* listing.
