Description

Hapsford Hall is a house that appears to date from the 18th century, but according to historical records, was likely built after 1816. It incorporates an earlier farmhouse and has been altered and extended. The house is constructed of brick and stone with a hipped slate roof, a stone plinth, and stone dressings. The front elevation is in Flemish bond brickwork, and the house is three storeys high, with cellars and an attic. It has a symmetrical three-bay design. Most of the windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although two ground-floor windows on the first floor have been replaced with cross casements. The windows have stone sills and splayed stone heads. A central, embattled stone porch projects forward. A stone band aligns with the chamfered stone band at the top of the plinth. There is a moulded cornice on consoles flanking an oval sunk panel. The front door comprises eight raised and fielded panels, with two glazed panels, and is flush with the house façade. The house has flush stone quoins. The left side of the building is constructed of stone, and the first and second floors feature iron casements with small panes. The rear of the house is part stone and part brick, and also has similar casements. Collared brick stacks are visible on the ridge. The earliest part of the interior retains stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and broad ledge and batten doors. There are also raised and fielded six-panel doors, and the staircase dates from the 19th century.
