Description
The churchyard gates, piers, and wing walls are a pair of gates with side screens, gate piers, and wing walls. They date from around 1722 and are attributed to Robert and John Davies of Croes Foel, while the wing walls were likely added in 1957. The gates are made of wrought iron and are complemented by stone piers and wing walls. They feature ornate dog-bars, a scrolled lockrail, and gilded wrought cartouches in the central panel of each gate, positioned above the lockrail. Each side screen has decorative panels both below and above the lockrail. The overthrow is adorned with repousse floral and leaf patterns and carries a central shield displaying the Grosvenor Arms, which has been in place since 1957. The scrollwork ends in repousse leaves. The square rusticated red sandstone piers have moulded plinths and urn caps, while the quadrant rock-faced red sandstone wing walls have flush rounded copings. The Duke of Westminster purchased, removed, and re-erected the gates and piers following the demolition of Emral Hall in 1957.
