Description
The almshouses located in St Mary's Churchyard, north of the church, date from the early 17th century. They are constructed of red brick with stone dressing and feature a tiled roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of two bays for each almshouse. The corners have rusticated quoins. The entrances have oak boarded doors set in rusticated stone-dressed openings, which have flat arches and keystones. The original stone-dressed two-light mullion windows with leaded casements are now blocked. The attic windows, found only in the gables, are two-light leaded casements in oak frames. Additionally, there are small, stone-dressed single-light windows at ground level in the gables, and each house has a single two-light mullion window at the rear (north). The gables feature stone coping with kneelers and a stone ridge, along with gable-end stacks.
