Description
38 and 40 Jordangate are a pair of houses dating from the late 18th century, although they have an earlier core and 19th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed from roughly coursed rubble stone and feature a stone-flagged roof. They are low, two-storey structures with a two-window range. The entrance to No. 38 is flanked by early 19th-century simple shop windows, which are set in moulded architraves on either side. The door has a simply moulded doorcase and a panelled door. To the left, there is a similar doorway, with a wide four-pane sash window positioned almost at ground level next to it. The upper windows are late 19th-century rectangular oriels. There is an axial brick stack on the roof.
