Description
Jordangate House is a house that is currently used as offices. It was built in 1728 and has 19th-century alterations and additions. The building is made of brick with stone dressings and has a stone-flagged roof. It stands three storeys high and has a five-window range with a double pile plan and a central entrance hall. The central doorway features interlaced tracery in the overlight, set within a pedimented architrave flanked by fluted Corinthian pilasters. To the right, there is a small single-storey extension, likely added in the late 18th century. The windows throughout the building are 12-pane sashes set in moulded painted stone architraves with keyblocks that connect to string courses over the ground and first floors. The building also has painted stone angle quoins and a moulded cornice at the eaves. A single long axial stack with 13 identical pots is present, along with a 19th-century extension at the rear left.
Inside, the central entrance lobby is separated from the stair hall by a moulded wood arch that features marquetry inlay. The staircase has moulded tread ends, a swept rail, and dado panelling. Some wall panelling and fireplaces remain, including a Gothick panelled archway inlaid with mirrors that indicates the original building line in the right-hand front room.
