Description

The George Hotel Public House is an early 18th-century building, though it was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century and remodelled in the early 20th century. It is built with roughcast render over brick, with a mock timbered appearance to the main facade. The roof is covered with Welsh slate. The building is three stories high, with substantial cellars beneath, and has a two-window front. The entrance front was comprehensively remodelled in the early 20th century, featuring a central round-arched entrance with a radial fanlight, likely from the early 19th century. This is flanked by three-light windows divided by a transom, and featuring a segmentally-arched lower central window. Upper windows have wood mullions, transoms, and leaded lights. A lower, gabled, single-window range is recessed to the left and has similar fenestration. Inside, the only surviving feature from the earlier structure is a late 17th-century staircase at the rear, with twisted balusters and a moulded rail.
