Description
The Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century and has been altered over time. It features a brick-nogged oak small frame with diagonal braces, although some parts have been replaced with brick. The roof is made of clay tiles and was formerly thatched. The building has one storey plus attic bedrooms and includes two windows. There is a boarded door on the south side and another door in the east gable end, which is in a wall that has been replaced with brick. The windows are small-pane wood casements typical of the 19th century vernacular style. A ridge chimney made of brick is present.
Inside, there is an oak-framed partition in the west room, with surviving posts and beams. The stair opposite the chimney stack has been replaced. The east room is divided into a kitchen and bathroom. The west bedroom features broad oak floorboards, while the east bedroom has had its boards replaced with softwood. The roof includes oak purlins with diagonal windbraces, although the rafters have largely been replaced.
