Description

Arclid Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to c.1700. It is constructed of red Flemish bond brick with a slate roof; the roof was originally stone-slated. The building is three storeys high. The front elevation has a near-symmetrical arrangement of five bays. A projecting plinth is topped with a chamfered ashlar band. A blocked doorway is positioned slightly to the right of centre, with three-light C19 casement windows flanking it, replacing the original two 2-light casement windows. A band of two bricks depth sits between the floors, and the first floor features five cross-windows of C20 date, all with cambered heads and ashlar sills. Another band of two bricks depth separates the first and second floors, which have five 2-light windows with cambered heads and ashlar sills. Gable chimney stacks are located at the right and left.

A C19 addition is present on the left side of the house, incorporating a C20 lean-to with an oriel window at the centre and doorways on either side. The right-hand side consists of four bays with a gable above the first two bays. Brick bands, two bricks deep, are visible between the ground and first, and first and second floors. A half-glazed door has been inserted on the ground floor to the left, replacing a window; a 2-light window is to the right, and a 3-light C19 casement window replaces two 2-light windows at far left. The first floor features four cross-windows, and the second floor has four 2-light windows. All windows on this front have cambered heads and ashlar sills.

The rear elevation features three gables, with the central gable being shorter than the flanking gables. Brick bands run between the floors as before. The left-hand gable has a single-light ground floor window and blocked windows at the ground floor level and above. A similar blocked window is situated on the first floor. Two mezzanine staircase windows, cutting through the brick bands, are centrally located; each has three lights. To the right of these is a plank doorway with a C20 brick porch, and a 2-light window beyond. The first floor has two cross-windows, and the attic has a 2-light window.

The interior staircase has four flights, with panelled rectangular newel posts (moulded caps) and a moulded handrail. The turned balusters are of C20 date. The first floor landing has four doors, each with two raised and fielded panels.
