Description

The cross base in St Wilfrid's Churchyard is a significant historical feature. It is a massive square sandstone block that transitions into an octagon with spurs. The square socket is partly filled by a chamfered square shaft, which is heavily weathered and may have originally supported a cross. Currently, a sundial plate, though its gnomon is broken, is attached to the top of the base.
