Description

Lake House is a house built around 1780. It features red brick in Flemish bond on the front and left side, with English garden wall bond on the right and rear. The roof is slate, and the building has two storeys and a basement. The layout is symmetrical, with two rooms on either side of a staircase hall. The entrance front has three bays and a central classical wooden doorcase topped with a pediment, leading up a stone flight of seven steps. The entrance has a six-panel door, with four lower panels raised and fielded and two upper panels glazed. There are vitrified headers, and 19th-century bay windows on the ground floor. The upper floor features skewback arches and sash windows with five by six panes, and six by six panes in the centre, which is a late 19th-century addition that includes some original glass. A modillion cornice runs along the top. There are 19th-century additions to the rear and a 20th-century addition on the right side.

Inside, there is a central hallway with an open string staircase and six-panel raised and fielded doors leading to the 18th-century ground and first-floor rooms. The dining room has a classical fireplace made of white and variegated marble. The drawing room features neo-classical plasterwork on the ceiling and cornice, while the first-floor rooms have cast iron hob grates and fireplaces.
