Description

Damhead House is a late 17th-century farmhouse, with later 18th and 19th-century additions and alterations. The house is built of Flemish bond brick with moulded brick dressings and has a stone tile roof. It is two storeys high, with a cellar and attic.

The front of the house shows 18th-century brickwork, with 19th-century quoins to the corners, a moulded string course, and a cornice. A gabled porch with a brick base and timber upper structure was added in the 19th century, positioned to the left of centre. 19th-century staircase windows are located at mezzanine levels to the right. The front also features 19th-century ovolo moulded mullioned and transomed windows of two lights, each with a cambered relieving arch of headers. A small 19th-century lavatory window is situated to the right of the upper staircase window. A 19th-century English garden wall bond brick addition extends to the right.

The rear elevation has two bays; the left-hand bay includes a late 18th-century angled bay window on the ground floor, with a three-light ovolo moulded window above, set within a relieving arch of headers. A three-light ovolo moulded window is found in the attic. To the right, the ground and first floors both feature three-light ovolo moulded windows, with the ground floor window having a double-row relieving arch of headers. A moulded string course runs between the floors.

Inside, a four-flight closed string staircase with half landings is present. The ground floor has chamfered ceiling beams. Original 17th and 18th-century raised and fielded panelled doors are found throughout the house.
