Description

The stone bridge located east of Somerset Lodge spans a leg of Chapel Mere on the eastern approach to Cholmondeley Castle. It was built in the early 19th century and is constructed of hammer-dressed sandstone. The bridge features splayed-back approach parapets with square, single-stone, weathered end piers. The eccentrically weathered, hammer-dressed copings overhang both sides of the parapet wall. The parapets rise to summits and include three weathered buttresses. Notably, the bridge spans wet-land rather than water and has two widely separated semicircular arches with hood moulds.
