Description
The Gatehouse is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of English bond and Flemish bond brick, featuring ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and an entrance front with a stone plinth. It consists of three bays, with a projecting gabled bay slightly to the right of the centre, which is a later addition. This bay has a 20th-century door set within a 20th-century ashlar surround, and above it is an older stone section bearing a coat of arms. There is a band of bricks above this, two bricks deep, that separates the floors. The first floor features a two-light casement window and a square wooden board with a circular clock face on the gable. To the right of this bay, there is a four-light ashlar ovolo-moulded mullioned window with a transom, topped by an ashlar pediment and tympanum. A three-light ashlar mullioned window is located on the first floor. The range to the left of the central projection has a central portion of 20th-century walling, which includes a five-light 20th-century casement window on the ground floor and a similar window on the first floor. The rear of the building features entirely 20th-century fenestration.
