Description

The garden walls at Gawsworth Old Hall date from the 16th century and feature later additions and alterations. They are constructed of English bond and random bond brick with ashlar dressings. The walls form a large rectangular enclosure, with a bowed wall at the southern end. There is a slightly projecting plinth with ashlar quoins at the southern corners and ashlar coping that slopes towards the outer face. The central section of the bowed wall has a blocked pedestrian entry, and there is another entry to the north of the eastern wall, next to a stretch of renewed walling. Additionally, there is a wide entry at the southern end of the eastern wall.
