Description
This is a pre-conquest cross, likely dating from the 11th century, that has been relocated to its current site in the late 20th century. It is made of pink gritstone and features a barrel-shaped column with two raised bands near the top. Above these bands, the column is shaped into four faces, each showing the lower part of a raised loop. The top of the cross is broken off, and it stands 1.2 meters high. Previously, it was situated next to the sundial in front of Shell Cottage at Adlington Hall, alongside another base of a Danish cross, a type commonly found in the Macclesfield area.
