Description

The Hawthorns are two late 18th-century houses, likely originally one larger dwelling. The houses are built of red brick with stone dressings and extend to two storeys. They feature six sash windows, each with a keyblock and a flat brick arch. Stone quoins mark the corners of the building. The ground storey incorporates a 19th-century bay window and two doorcases with three-quarter-columned, 19th-century porch entrances. A modillion cornice runs along the top of the building, and the roof is slate-covered. The Hawthorns are part of a group that includes numbers 42 to 64 (even), 64A, 64B and numbers 66 to 92 (even) along Welsh Row.
