Description

The Gateway is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of Welsh Row. It is constructed of red brick and has two storeys. The structure consists of two small houses that flank a central archway leading to the Porch House. The facade is symmetrical, featuring three sash windows set in recessed two-storey panels with arched heads. There is a stone string course at the springing line, and a prominent central feature with a stone five-centred arch that leads through the block. The building has a moulded wood eaves cornice with modillions, which continues as a pediment above the central feature. The roof is slate and hipped at both ends. The Gateway is part of a group that includes Nos 42 to 64 (even), 64A, 64B, and Nos 66 to 92 (even).
