Description
The Black Lion Public House, located at 29 Welsh Row, is a 17th-century building, with the date 1664 carved on the door head. It features a timber frame with brick and plaster infilling, painted in a black and white scheme. The building has a gabled end facing the street and stands three storeys tall, with a slight overhang on each storey supported by contemporary brackets. There is one 18th-century three-light sash window and a 19th-century canted bay window on the ground storey, which has single glazing bars. The entrance includes a six-panelled door set in a moulded wood surround, and there is an 18th-century iron sign bracket. The barge boards have been restored, and the roof is tiled. The Black Lion Public House is part of a group that includes Nos 29, 33 to 47 (odd), and Nos 55 and 57.
