Description

The buildings at 46 and 48 Welsh Row comprise a single structure, originally two separate buildings. Number 48 exhibits an exposed timber frame with plaster and brick infilling, painted black and white, and projects forward with a gable to the street. It is two storeys in height, with a further attic level, and features overhangs at both the first and second floors, the first-floor overhang returning on the sides. There are two 17th-century wood mullioned and transomed casement windows with leaded lights, which have been restored, along with bargeboards. A doorway has a moulded wooden surround, leading to a door consisting of six fielded panels divided into two halves. Number 46, on the right-hand side, is constructed of 19th-century red brick, concealing the original timber frame. It has two storeys, with two casement windows incorporating single glazing bars. A simple doorway has a cambered head and a batten door, accompanied by a large brick stack. The roof is tiled. Numbers 42 to 64 (even), 64A, 64B and numbers 66 to 92 (even) form a group.
