Description

A range of five cottages, built around 1900, incorporating earlier structures. The cottages were designed by Richard Harding Watt. They are constructed of painted brick with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with a nine-window front. There are paired doorways to the left and centre, and a single doorway to the right, all with overlights. The lower windows are casements with fixed lights. Cottages number 7 and 8 have very high overlights to their doorways and tall ground-floor windows, responding to the steeply sloping site. Two oriel windows are located on the upper right side, while the other upper windows have wooden balconies supported by struts. There is an archway at the rear, to the left. The rear elevations also feature balconies beneath an overhanging roofline. The end walls are finished with Mediterranean-style stacks. The interior has not been inspected and the cottages are part of a remarkable development in a Free Style architectural style, commissioned by Richard Harding Watt.
