Description
No. 131 King Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a heavy slate roof. It has two storeys and a five-window range that is divided by heavy brick pilasters. There is a dentilled frieze above and a moulded string course between the storeys. The central door has four fielded panels and is set in a moulded case with a renewed canopy above it. The windows are all four-pane sashes with flat-arched heads. The eaves overhang, and there are gable end stacks. The gable features lozenge decoration in the brickwork. The rear wall was rebuilt in the mid to late 20th century. The interior was refitted in the mid to late 20th century as well. The facade is an unusual and notable example of the naive "Artisan Mannerist" style typical of 17th century provincial architecture.
