Description
Tower House is a tower built around 1900, possibly not originally intended for domestic use, designed by Richard Harding Watt. It is constructed of painted brick with some projecting brick blocks and features a flat roof. The building is five stories tall and has a square plan, showcasing an austere style with small square windows set deep into the walls. There is an arched entrance to the right, adorned with flamboyant wrought-iron hinges. The tower currently ends in a plain parapet, but it was once topped with a wooden gallery and pinnacle resembling a minaret. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the tower was part of a complex that included a laundry and workers' cottages, established by Watt on the site of a former tannery, and is a notable example of Free Style architecture developed under his patronage.
