Description
Lower Marton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is timber framed with rendered brick infill and has a roof made of stone slate. The building has two storeys and was originally designed with two cells, although there are 20th-century additions now present.
The north front features a rendered plinth, with some wooden uprights on the ground floor that have mostly been replaced with brickwork. The first floor slightly overhangs and has an ovolo-moulded bressumer. The first floor posts at the corners and center extend downwards into the ground floor and end in ribs. The first floor has small framing consisting of 11 x 2 cells, with angle braces located at the left-hand upper corner and the fifth cell from the left. There are two three-light windows on the ground floor and three two-light windows on the first floor. To the right, there is a two-storey 20th-century extension.
On the left-hand end, there is small framing along with brickwork that features painted simulated timbering, which also appears on the ground floor of the north front. The south front has a brick ground floor and a projecting wing to the left with cambered-headed windows. There are three-light double-glazed doors to the left of a recessed portion and a three-light window to the right. The first floor has two three-light windows, with much of the timber-framing on this level being simulated and painted, although the three cells on the left are original.
