Description
Plum Tree Cottage and Church Cottage are a pair of cottages built in 1877, located on Crewe Road in Crewe Green. These cottages are constructed from red brick and feature a gabled tile roof. They are single storey with an attic and consist of two bays each. The central bays have twin mullion high transom casement windows set forward between posts that support a narrow lean-to roof with hipped ends. Each end bay has a porch with boarded doors and side lights, covered by hipped roofs, and small casement windows flanking the porches. The upper storey is entirely within the roof space. The centre gables are finished in whitened roughcast with planted timbers and two-light casements, flanked by pilasters with brackets supporting flat heads. Each centre gable features a twin rose design and the date in the apex. The roof has hipped ends with gabled dormers. The original roof covering has been replaced with 20th-century concrete tiles. A prominent central chimney stands high, featuring the Crewe Estate emblem inset at the base and diagonal flues with heavy caps. The cottages are listed for their group value.
