Description

This is a milestone located at the corner of Narrow Lane, dating from around 1897. It is made of cast iron and is painted black and white. The milestone has a triangular shape, with the top sloping forward towards the front point. The front is white with a black base, featuring letters and numerals highlighted in black. It is marked "Cheshire County Council" on the top sloping face, with distances to Nantwich (5 miles) and Whitchurch (16 miles) on the east side. The west side lists distances to Haslington (1 mile), Wheelock (3.5 miles), Sandbach (5 miles), and Congleton (12 miles). The back of the milestone is hollow and includes two horizontal braces on the side cheeks. This structure is listed for its group value only.
